You will receive anaesthesia before this surgery. Two types of anaesthesia can be used:
General anaesthesia, which means you, will be unconscious and unable to feel pain.

For total shoulder replacement, the round end of your arm bone will be replaced with an artificial stem that has a rounded metal head. In this case, a surgeon may recommend a shoulder replacement. Older patients with osteoporosis are most at risk for severe shoulder fractures.
